Some photos of my daughter's pony Megland Royal Pretence (Poppy) in her stable tonight and during the 2009 summer shows.

Stags

When out and about trying to take some snow photos, I came across two lone stags. One at the Spittal windfarm (above) and the other at Loch Calder (below). Both didn't hang around for very long (i.e. 10 seconds)

Forss waterfalls

I went to photograph the Forss Mill and waterfalls for the first time the other day. I really needed a ND filter to get a slower shutter speed and produce really "milky" looking flowing water.

Causeymire Windmills at dusk

The Causeymire windmills near Spittal, taken at dusk on 2nd January. Around half were not working as it was quite still.

Frozen Loch Watten

Some pix of Loch Watten taken on 2nd January. The loch was virtually frozen over and it looked as though somebody had ridden a quad bike on the ice, which seems pretty foolhardy to me.

Pool Challenge Game

This pool table in a semi-derelict cottage caught my eye recently and a special challenge game was arranged for a photo-shoot. Thanks to Hamish and Sarah for dressing up, braving the sub zero temperatures and for hanging around while I tried different balance settings for the two off-camera speedlight flashes. It was late in the afternoon and there was very little natural light coming through the windows.

High School Prom Girls

The Thurso High School 5th & 6th year prom was held on Tuesday and I was invited to take some pix of 6 friends before they ventured down to the New Weigh Inn Hotel. I used two off-camera speedlight flashes for the first time to see the effect they gave.

The girls were very glamorous and four were brave enough to face the camera on their own for some different individual shots. I suspect they didn't look this good after the post prom parties!
