2012 Caithness County Show

A few pics from the 2012 Caithness Agricultural Show which was held at Thurso East for the first time in over 30 years.

Avoch vs Kirkwall Rovers

This overhead kick was saved by the Kirwall Rovers keeper.

I caught the second half of the Highland Amateur cup semi-final between Avoch and Kirkwall Rovers played in Castletown today. Avoch were comfortable 4-0 winners (2-0 at half-time) and now play Wick Groats in the final after they beat Muir of Ord Rovers 2-1 in Golspie. The final is on 4th August at Inverness Caledonian Thistle's ground.

Halkirk vs Pentland Utd

James Murray takes on the Halkirk defence yet again

Lee MacDougall takes to the air

Lukasz Geruzel score the opening goal with a left foot strike.

James Murray shows his frustration at overhitting the ball as he closed in on goal

Lee MacDougall cannot believe he skied a sitter in front of goal

Pentland Utd beat Halkirk 6-0 last night in Halkirk. I caught the first half and it was 2-0. Halkirk battled away and kept the Stabs at bay for most of the half, but when Lukasz Geruzel (who I believe has signed for Wick Academy) struck a sweet low shoot into the net, there was only going to be one winner. James Murray got the second after he took on the entire Halkirk defence. He proved to be a handful on the right wing with his speed and direct approach.

Acks vs Wick Groats

Wick Groats beat Thurso Acks 3-0 at the Dammies last night. It was 1-0 at half-time when I caught up with the action. I left with 15 mins to go and it was still 1-0. It was a fairly even midfield battle with not much goalmouth excitement.

Caithness Cycling Club Racing weekend

Caithness Cycling Club held its annual July Racing Weekend with 3 time trials over Sat and Sun. There were over 30 competitors from all over Scotland. I snapped the 10 mile Time Trial this morning (Sunday) which ran from the Thurso cemetery along the A9 to the Inverness junction and back. I was positioned near the junction at Hoy and used the panning technique to get a sense of speed.

It is difficult to get the camera speed to be the same as the cyclist's speed and so get the bike frame to be pin sharp.

The results are on the cycling club's website;
