Shinty - Caithness v Beauly (1-6)

The Caithness team prior to kick off

Caithness shinty club played their very first competitive match against Beauly in a national cup match at Viewfirth yesterday. Beauly are the favourites to win the competition and they won 6-1. The first 20 mins was played in a hailstorm and it was biting cold for the whole match.

Caithness were 3-0 down early in the 2nd half, when Luke Merchant scored to make it 3-1 and give Beauly a scare. But in the end it was a comfortable win. There were a couple of injury scares when Caithness players were hit by flying camans, but nobody was carried off.

Acks v Wick Groats (0-4)

1st goal celebrations

Wick Groats beat Thurso Acks 4-0 at the Dammies tonight in a league match. Acks had all the pressure in the early stages and Graeme Williamson kept Groats in the game with some good saves. Sandy Sutherland opened the scoring after Neal Clark spilled the ball. I think Stewart Ross scored the 2nd. 2-0 at half-time.

Craig Trueman took down Sandy Sutherland in the box and Sean Stewart scored the penalty. Sandy Sutherland bundled the ball over the line for a late 4th goal.
