Thurso beat Invergordon 2-0 today at the Dammies.  The Vikings had a full strength squad, including new trialists/signings Stewart Ross and Ross Allan.

James Murray scored early in the first half and Sandy Sutherland got the second very late on.  Mark Nichol missed a penalty and Thurso hit the woodwork many times.  Invergordon only got going in the second half and could have equalised a few times, but the woodwork and Michael Gray denied them.

Tempers got frayed at times and there were lots of bookings.

Scottish Surf Kayak Championships

The Scottish Canoe Association Scottish Surf Kayak Championship was held in Thurso Bay over the weekend.  I don't think the event was advertised locally and I only heard about it on Friday through the local Kayak club. Around 50 people from all over the UK entered the many different classes.

I could only manage an hour on Saturday due to other sports commitments (football and rugby) and caught the Masters final and two of the mens shortboard heats.

This was my first time at trying to capture the action from kayaking.  I really needed a 600mm lens to get right close in on the action.

Thurso vs Alness

After catching the first half of the rugby, I walked to the Dammies to catch the last 25 mins of the first half of the Thurso vs Alness match.  Thurso were in total control and went in at half time 1-0 up.  Kyle Ross scored direct from a corner. The match ended 4-0.

Wick vs Huntly

I caught most of the 2nd half of the Wick vs Huntly match and missed all the 3 goals scored in the first half. Huntly were in control of the match and won comfortably 2-1.  James More had some great saves to keep the score down.

Caithness RFC vs Berwick

I caught some of the first half action of the Caithnes RFC vs Berwick match today.  It was the first time they have played a team from England. Caithness lost 23-48.

Blair Mackintosh scored Caithness's 2nd try late in the first half (top pics)

I was in North Wales last week on a business trip to Trawsfynydd nuclear power station.  I took my camera and snapped a few pics in the early morning and evening.
