Halkirk vs Wick Groats
My first match of the 2011 summer league. Wick Groats were winning 3-0 against Halkirk (in Halkirk) when I left with 15 mins to go. Groats were winning 1-0 at half time after a mix up in the Halkirk defence. Halkirk goalie Gordon Clark had some great saves to keep it at 1-0.
It was all Groats in the 2nd half and they scored two crackers of goals. I hardly got a pic in the 2nd half as I was at the Halkirk end.
Neil MacKay is back in charge of the Halkirk side.
Northern Nashville Caithness Country Music Festival
The Northern Nashville Caithness Country Music Festival was held over the Easter weekend in Halkirk. The five shows were a sellout with around 1,000 people attending each show. I went along on the two Saturdays shows.
BBC Alba filmed the festival and the programme will be shown later this year (Sky channel 168, Freesat channel 110)

Easter Story Flower Festival
The Ladies Fellowship and friends of the St Peter's and St Andrew's church in Thurso have organised a 4 day Easter Story Flower Festival in the church (21st April to 24th). There are 19 impressive displays throughout the ground floor. It was very busy yesterday afternoon when I was asked to take some photos.

O'Neill Cold Water Classic - Prize ceremony
Brent Dorrington from Australia beat Jay Quinn from New Zealand in the final of the O'Neill Cold Water Classic world qualifying series surfing event at Thurso East on Sunday evening. Thurso's Andy Bain, O'Neill's local event co-ordinator, presented the Highland Claymore to Brent. Brent also won $20,000 and a piece of Scottish land, so he can be called Lord Donnington from now on!
The whole event was live on O'Neill's website via 5 cameras and was watched by tens of thousands of surfing fans from all over the world.
The waves for the final were very poor compared to the rest of the week. However, all the surfers said the waves throughout the week were the best they have ever seen for any O'Neill event.

O'Neill Cold Water Classic - Friday
The sun decided to shine for about a couple of hours on Friday morning and it makes all the difference to the surfing pics. I missed the 30 mins of sunshine today (Saturday). Hope to catch more action tomorrow.

Wavenorth Skateboarding
Wavenorth opened the temporary skate board park at the tennis courts today. It was immediately busy and as the surfing was cancelled, I took the opportunity to take some pics.
I used two external flashes and underexposed for the ambient light to darken the sky (it was very bright and sunny at 3pm today).
It is a dangerous sport and one young lad broke his wrist earlier in the day.
More surfing pics from Wednesday
Some more action from Wednesday at the O'Neill Cold Water Classic six star world qualifying series.
