Surfing Championships this weekend
The Scottish Surfing Championships are on this coming weekend at Thurso East and I'm looking forward to taking some snaps. Will have to wrap up as the forecast temperature is only 4 degrees, only 17 degrees colder than last Tuesday!
The above pics were taken at last year's event.
Honda Fireblade
I used my pocket wizard remote triggers to take some flash pics of a very fast Honda Fireblade. I used red gels for the pics with the logs which are stacked up in Halkirk. The sky shots were taken in a layby at Halsary on the A9 not far from the Spittal windmills.

Rugby - Wick High School vs Stromness
Wick High School S1 & S2 lost to Stromness 28-12 yesterday in Thurso. I caught the 2nd half and Wick were on top, but could not overturn the half time score. Wick played in black.
Rugby - Thurso High School S1,S2 vs Stromness
Thurso in mainly red and Stromess in mainly black |
Thurso High School S1 & S2 pupils beat Stromness 35-28 in Thurso yesterday. It was 28-28 and Thurso scored the winning try in the last minute. All the 9 tries were converted which is a very impressive standard.
Thurso had to put on green bibs as the strips were both red and black.
Stromness had played Wick High School only 20 mins before playing the Thurso pupils, so were pretty tired at the end. They beat Wick 28-12 - pics to follow later.

Halkirk Utd won the North Caledonian league in dramatic style today at The Recreation Park, Halkirk. They needed a win against Clach A and were 2-1 down after 90 mins. However they scored two goals in added time to win!
Clach scored a penalty in the first minute and The Anglers misfired throughout the first half to stay at 1-0 down. Gavin Henderson scored a penalty early in the 2nd half after Martin Banks was pulled down. The Anglers then had the best of play when Clach had a player sent off and should have scored 2 or 3 goals, but Clach had a rare breakaway and scored with 10 mins left.
In the 91st minute full back Stuart Florence scored with a rare header and substitute Chris Sutherland sent the large crowd wild with the winner in the 94th minute.
There will be a few sore heads tomorrow after the celebrations.
Wick drew 1-1 with Cove Rangers. Thurso lost 3-2 to Dingwall. Caithness RFC lost 18-3 to Aberdeenshire, but escaped relegation.

Thurso vs Muir of Ord Rovers
Ewen Dance's header hits the woodwork to be denied a hat-trick |
Lukas Geruzel scores with a header |
Thurso lost 2-1 to Muir of Ord Rovers today at a sunny Dammies. Thurso were hit with a few late call offs and needed two trialists and they only had 2 subs. Despite the close score, Thurso were never in the races. Rovers went 2-0 up through Ewen Dance and John Skinner missed a penalty, before Thurso's new Polish striker Lukas Geruzel scored just before half time with a neat head flick from a corner.
Geruzel was a prolific goalscorer in the Polish 2nd Division before getting a serious injury a couple of years ago and has only just started a comeback.
Ewen Dance hit the woodwork to be denied a hat-trick and Rovers missed plenty of good chances in the second half.
Halkirk beat Alness 1-0 and so are still 1 point ahead of Muir of Ord. The Anglers only need a home win against Clach next Saturday to win the league.
Wick Academy drew 4-4 with Deveronvale in the cup, after being 4-2 up. They lost 5-4 after extra time. Both sides finished with 10 men. Ross Allan got sent off for 2 yellows.
