Halkirk beat Thurso Acks 3-2 in a volatile match in Halkirk last night. The village side scored with the last kick of the ball to win.

Acks were 1-0 up and Halkirk scored two quick goals midway through the 2nd half. Stevie Campbell scored the second with a strong contender for goal of the season. He beat half of the Acks team before crashing a 25 yard rocket into the postage stamp corner.

Acks then threw everything at Ian Miller in Halkirk's goal, but the veteran was in inspired form with some great saves. Acks had a goal disallowed for offside with a few mins to go, but they kept plugging away and scored the equaliser with 2 mins left. With seconds to go, Stevie Campbell fired a speculative shot at Gordon Clark and the ball somehow slipped through his fingers and into the net.

Caithness Motocross Round 2

The Caithness Motocross Club staged the 2nd round of their race series at Ravenshill, Forss by Thurso on Sunday 26th May. The sunshine came out for a change and the blue sky made a nice backdrop for the mid-air shots. Not as many riders as in previous years.

Famous Glamour Photographer visits Thurso Camera Club

Famous fashion and glamour photographer Damian McGillicuddy, visited Thurso on Sat 25th May to give a talk and demonstration photoshoot to the members and guests of Thurso, Wick and Keiss Camera Clubs. It was a huge honour to have such a famous photographer in Caithness.

Damian had just arrived back from a photoshoot in Berlin, before travelling to Thurso via a photoshoot in Aberdeen. The visit was sponsored by Olympus and Damian was demonstrating what the latest Olympus digital camera (EP5) can do. This type of camera may make the DSLR cameras obsolete in the future.

Damian took pics of professional model Zoe in the Miller Academy Primary School's art/music room and the fantastically preserved Victorian classroom. These pics will be posted later this week.

Luckasz Geruzel hits the ball into the empty net for the 4th
Pentland Utd entertained Staxigoe Utd in the quarter final of the Colin MacLeod Memorial cup last night in Dunnet. A large crowd watched a start-stop game in brilliant sunshine. Ref Stephen Tait flashed the yellow card 9 times and the red once (to Pentland Utd's Michael Petrie for two bookings). 8 of the bookings were for bad tackles. Two were for flying in with studs up and could have broken a leg.

Pentland Utd had most of the play in the first half, but the final ball was terrible. James Murray opened the scoring late in the first half when a defence splitting pass put him through one on one with Daniel Budge and he cooly slotted the ball past. In the second half, Luckasz Geruzel weaved his way to the line and cut back to Ross Allan who bundled the ball over with a strong suspicion of hand ball. James Murray showed his class for the 3rd by hitting a pass on the turn, without looking at the goal and it hit the net from 25 yards out.

John Budge got one back with a cracking flying header from a free kick. It was all Staxigoe after that, but despite some good chances they couldn't beat Michael Gray. Luckasz Geruzel got a 4th against the run of play when he cooly chipped Daniel Budge, ran around him and had a simple tap in.

Other scores:

John O'Groats 3-1 Castletown
Wick Groats 2-1 Acks
Lybster 7-0 Francis St Club

Gordie McNab scores from the spot to make it 1-1

Halkirk played host to Staxigoe Utd in a Division One league match tonight. I caught the first 25 mins before having to leave.

Halkirk took the lead when Staxigoe goalie Ryan Robertson dropped a high ball and Matthew Mackay had a simple tap in. Gordie McNab cooly side footed a penalty to make it 1-1 after 25 mins. He went onto score a hat-trick and Bobby Gunn got the other goal.

Wick Groats and Pentland Utd drew 2-2 in Wick. Utd had a player sent off.
John O'Groats beat Swifts 3-1 in Thurso and go top of the league with a maximum 9 points.
