The annual match between Caithness RFC and an Exiles/Student select for the Sinclair Cadzow memorial trophy was held today at Millbank in glorious sunshine and no wind. The Exiles were no match for a rampant Greens team and lost 80-3. Linda Younger handed over the trophy on behalf of the Cadzow family to Caithness captain Stevie Campbell.

Brora Rangers suffered their first league defeat of the season at the hands of Fraserburgh at Dudgeon Park today. Broch scored the only goal of the game mid-way through the second half.   Brora had the wind and the lashing rain behind their backs in the first half, but couldn't turn their large share of possession into a goal.

Broch were well organised and contained Brora in the 2nd half.

The Societies' Photographic Convention in London

I have been invited to do a presentation about sports photography at The Societies' annual Photographic Convention being held in the Hilton London Metrople between 14-20 January 2014. It is huge honour to speak at the largest convention in Europe, which attracts around 15,000 people over the week. Attendees are mainly from the UK, but some travel from all corners of the world to the event. There will be around 100 speakers and nearly all are full-time professional photographers, with some having world class reputations.

My 90min slot is on the morning of the 19th and the link to my speaker advert is:

The Photographer of the Year awards night is on Saturday 18th January, but my two gold award photos (see below) didn't make it into the final of the sports category. However, it is great to hear that Julie Fraser from Thurso, has been nominated in the baby portrait category, one of the categories with the greatest amount of competition and hardest to win, so a superb achievement. Julie and myself will be sitting amongst the "Scottish contingent" for the awards dinner and fingers crossed she brings back the highly prized globe trophy to Caithness.

I'm having website problems and cannot upload any pics to my galleries, hence why the last few games are not posted yet. Hopefully fixed soon.

I caught the last 30mins of the Thurso vs Clach cup semi-final at the Dammies and it was 2-0 when I arrived. Luke Sawyer scored the third and Allan Munro scored the 4th when his high cross to the back post caught the wind and sailed into the top corner. Scott Bell scored the 5th with a fine header at the back post.

The Clach side was weakened as 5 players were called up for the 1st team in their Highland League match. Clach had 5 trialists and one sub.

Halkirk Utd beat Alness Utd 4-1 in a league game at Morrison Park yesterday.  All the goals were scored in the first half. Gordie MacNab opened the scoring after 20 mins, quickly followed by  Graham MacNab and Grant MacNab.

The MacNab trio and Alan Hughes were running riot through the Alness defence who couldn't cope with the fast and accurate passing movements. Alan Hughes fouled an Alness player in the box and gave away a penalty. Craig Munro just beat a diving Daniel Budge with the spot kick to make it 3-1. Graham MacNab scored near half-time to make it 4-1.

I left at half-time to catch the Thurso vs Clach cup match.
