O'Neill Cold Water Classic - Wednesday

Some action pics from round 1 of the O'Neill Cold Water Classic surfing event held at Thurso East today.

The Chip Kendall Band

Manchester's Christian rock group "The Chip Kendall Band" went down a storm in front of over 250 school kids at Thurso High School on Friday night.  Chip was as lively as he was last year and it was difficult to catch his energetic show on camera.  The concert was also videoed and it will be well worth seeing.

Chip and friends were up all week visiting classes and assemblies at both Wick and Thurso High Schools.

The band spent over 30 minutes signing autographs before packing up and driving back to Manchester overnight.

Scottish Surf Kayak Championships

The Scottish Surf Kayak Championships were held today at Thurso Bay.  The waves were reasonable in the morning but poor in the afternoon. I think the whole competition was completed by late afternoon.  Local competitors were Gavin and Matthew Sutherland and Matthew Thain.

I caught the first half of the Thurso vs Balintore league match at the sunny Dammies today. Thurso went in 5-0 up. No details of final score and I haven't heard if Dingwall beat Golspie to win the league.
Wick lost away to Keith 3-1.
Halkirk Utd and Caithness RFC had no game today.

The Societies' Awards for March

The Societies' awards for March have just been published (http://swppusa.com/competition/index.php?cat=51) and I gained 3 silver awards for the above pics.

Caithness Ladies FC vs Brora Rangers Ladies FC

Caithness Ladies FC lost 12-0 in a friendly against a much more experienced Brora Rangers Ladies FC (gold strip). Brora play in the Ladies Scottish Highland League - which I never knew existed until yesterday and are coached by Halkirk's Sammy MacKay.

The match was played at Wick's artificial pitch after the Dammies was declared unplayable (very late on) due to pools of  water in some areas. I only caught 15 mins of the match as I had to go to the Wick vs Clach match.

Wick Academy vs Clachnacuddin

Wick Academy drew 2-2 with Inverness Clach at Harmsworth Park yesterday.  David Allan and Richard MacAdie scored for Wick and Stuart Leslie scored a double for Clach (equalising both times).  Hardly got any pics in the 2nd half as Academy failed to make any impression on the Clach defence.

• Halkirk Utd's game was cancelled as Fort William could not raise a team. 
• The Thurso game at Dingwall was postponed due to a water logged pitch.
• Caithness lost 35-7 away to Allan Glen's.
• Caithness Ladies FC lost 12-0 in a friendly game against Brora Ladies FC - pics to follow.
