Wick Academy beat Thurso 6-1 in a friendly match at the Dammies in Thurso. Gary Weir scored twice in the first half and then Thurso's Benn Murray scored a header from corner, to make it 2-1 at half time. Wick turned it on in the 2nd half and Sam MacKay scored a hat-trick (one a penalty) and Joe Steven scored with a header.

Caithness Cycling Club Racing Festival Weekend

Caithness Cycling Club held their annual racing festival over the weekend with cyclists from throughout the country competing. I missed the 25 Mile TT on Saturday, but caught the 10 Mile TT and 11 Mile Loch Calder Hilly TT on Sunday. Tam Gordon, Dooleys Cycles swept the board on both days, with Caithness CC's Alasdair Washington winning the veterans prize.

I caught the first half of the Thurso Acks vs John O'Groats league game at the Dammies last night. Acks had all the best play and were a comfortable 2-0 up at half-time. Mid way through the half Paul Wares crossed the ball to an unmarked Chris Sutherland who side footed it past James Richard. Paul made it 2-0 just before half-time with a stunning shot from just inside the box that flew past James Richard into the top corner.

John O'Groats scored one in the second half and I hear that there was heated debate when ref Bob Gunn booked an Acks player for attempted hand ball on the goal line. The ball hit the post and not the hand. The play restarted with a drop ball a few yards from goal and Acks managed to clear it.
