Scotland vs England Action Photos

Murrayfield was packed to capacity with 67,144 fans on Saturday for the Scotland vs England RBS Six Nations match.  It ended in a draw at 15 points each.  No tries, but plenty of action to capture.

With a 5 o'clock kick-off,  it got dark mid-way through the second half and in order to keep the shutter speed fast (f2.8 at 1/1,000 sec) my ISO setting had to change from an initial 500 to 3,200 - even with the stadium lights on full.

Scotland were attacking my end in the first half and as I couldn't swap ends, England were coming towards me in the 2nd half.  Most of the best action seemed to be at the other end of the pitch!

Scotland vs England Rugby fans

At the Scotland vs England rugby international on Saturday, I took time to wander in and around the crowd before the game and bumped into some fans from Caithness. 

The girls with the cowboy hats are from Aberdeen and the England fans are from Middlesborough.  There were surprisingly few fans dressed up.

Scottish Press Awards

I'm delighted to announce that I have been shortlisted for Sports Photographer of the Year at the 31st Scottish Press Awards.  Myself and 4 others (2 from the Daily Record, 1 from the Scottish Sun and a freelance photographer) have been chosen for the final stages ahead of many dozens of professional photographers in Scotland. 

My 3 submissions are shown above. The surfing photos were taken at the 2009 O'Neill Cold Water Classic in Thurso last May.  The All Star Wrestling show visited Wick last march.

The winners of all 19 press categories will be announced at a grand dinner in the Radisson BLU Hotel, Glasgow, on 22nd April.  The only problem is that the tickets are £100 each, so won't be a cheap trip!

Thurso vs Muir of Ord

Colin Gregory took in the Thurso vs Muir of Ord match played at the Dammies on Saturday as I was busy with surfing and badminton.  Thurso lost 1-0.

Emma & Oonagh Dunnett going for gold

The pic shows Emma and Oonagh Dunnett training on Tuesday night as they prepare for the Intercounties Championships in Birmingham this weekend. The Thurso girls will make the long journey as part of the Scottish Athletics teams, representing the East Districts as part of a team of 6 Under 15 Girls.

The event will be shown live on Sky Sports 4 from 11.30am this Saturday.  The girls race is scheduled for approx 2pm.

Luckily they jogged very slowly for the photo!

North Highland Harriers

Members of the newly formed North Highland Harriers running club participate in a multi-pace training session in preparation for the Inverness Half-marathon on Sunday, March 14. The club holds various training sessions on a weekly basis. For a schedule of these, visit the club's website at

Since forming in January 2010, the club has attracted nearly 80 senior runners who share an interest in training and racing in road, trail, fell and cross country running. Next up on the club's calendar following Sunday's half-marathon is the forthcoming Castle of Mey 10K on the 16th May which members are currently training for.
