Lybster vs Kirkwall Thorfinn (0-3)

Kirkwall Thorfinn beat Lybster 3-0 in the Highland Amateur cup at Cow Park, Lybster. I arrived for the 2nd half and Kirkwall were 1-0 up at half-time. I was told that Lybster hit the post and had some good chances with the wind behind them.

With the wind and rain behind them, Kirkwall scored twice within 10 mins of the re-start to kill off the contest. They were in total control and prevented Lybster from having any shots at goal in the 2nd half.

Kirkwall now face Pentland Utd in the next round in Orkney on 15th July.

Thurso Acks vs Halkirk (2-2)

Thurso Acks and Halkirk battled out a 2-2 draw in perfect conditions at the Dammies. Russell Bain put Halkirk in the lead before half-time. Kyle Innes equalised early in the 2nd half.

Straight from the resulting kick off, the ball was directly passed back to Paul MacKay and he blasted the ball around 55 to 60 yards over the keeper's head and into the back of the net. He was 8-10 yards inside his own half when he hit it. There was stunned disbelief from the Acks players and bench and the 40-50 fans. It reminded me of a young David Beckham when he scored from inside his own half for Manchester United in the late 1990s.

Kyle Innes was on sparkling form and he equalised for the 2nd time. Both teams had chances but failed to score another.

Caithness Cycling Club Festival 25 Mile TT

The Caithness Cycling Club held their annual festival of cycling with around 30 competitors from all over Scotland. I caught the 25 Mile TT on Saturday and stood in the Georgemas area of the A9.

Pentland Utd vs Wick Groats (3-1)

Pentland Utd beat rivals Wick Groats 3-1 at Ham Park in the semi-final of the Eain Mackintosh cup in front of a crowd of around 90-100. Groats played downwind and down the slope in the first half, but only scored one goal despite being on top. Utd took advantage of the slope and the wind to score 3 goals in the 2nd half. James MacLean, James Murray and Michael Petrie were the scorers.
