A busy Saturday afternoon of sport started off by catching the first half of the Thurso vs Invergordon cup tie at the Dammies.  Mark Nichol scored the only goal in the half.  The final score was 3-0.

Caithness RFC vs Lasswade

Caithness played Lasswade in the 2nd round of the National Shield and narrowly lost 14-18.  Lasswade play in National Div 1 (one division higher than Caithness) and are running away with the league title, so it was a great performance by the Greens.  It was 8-15 at half time. I caught the 2nd half and there were no tries, just 3 penalties (two to Caithness scored by Liam Brims).

Wick Academy vs Keith

Andrew MacLeod and Cameron Keith

Andrew MacLeod fails to stop centre forward Cameron Keith from scoring Keith's 3rd goal

Keith goalie Andrew Shearer saves a penalty taken by Gary Weir

Stevie Cunningham attacks the Keith defence

David Allan is tackled by Stuart Walker

Richard MacAdie battles for the ball

Jonathan Smith blasts the ball through the Wick wall to score Keith's 5th goal from only 6 yards out

Wick were drawing 3-3 with Keith until 4 mins to go and conceded 2 late goals to lose 5-3 at Harmsworth Park this afternoon.

After taking pics at the Thurso vs Invergordon (3-0) and Caithness RFC vs Lasswade (14-18) cup matches in Thurso, I arrived late in the first half with the score at 2-2.  Wick were 2-0 up and all over Keith, but conceded 3 goals later in the first half.

Sean Keith scored a hat-trick for Keith. Stevie Cunningham, Richard MacAdie and sub Sam MacKay scored for Wick.

Halkirk Utd lost 3-2 to Dingwall Thistle in the cup (in Dingwall)

Snowman Rally

The Snowman rally was held in the Tain and Lairg area on Saturday and is the first round of the Scottish Rally Championship. Over 100 cars entered. It was my first time taking pics at a car rally.

For the 1st stage, I set up at a tight hairpin corner and got one pic (2nd pic above) before the stage was cancelled due to a car catching fire. I then set off to a forest track a few miles North of Lairg (for stage 3) and got around a dozen pics before there was a delay of 50 mins due to a smash.  These incidents meant I did not get many photos as I had to leave at 3pm. There were a few thousand spectators and parking was a big problem. A walk of around 1 mile from the car park to the track was the norm.

Bruce Oag from Castletown finished in overall 24th place in his blue Escort (top pic).  Not sure if he won his class.  Mark Alexander from Reay retired due to mechanical problems at the start of the 3rd stage, so I did not get any pics.

Mark Elder from Dunbeath finished in 65th and James Brims along with Sandy Coghill finished in 60th.  I will have to check if I got any pics of them.

Scotland vs Wales Six Nations match

1 - Lee Bryne off-loads to Shane Williams

2 - James Hook fends off Allan Jacobsen

3 - James Hook evades Rory Lawson before off-loading to Shane Williams for 1st try

4 - Shane Williams has a clear run to the try line for 1st try

5 - Nick De Luca cannot stop Shane Williams from scoring 1st try

6 - Ross Rennie boots the ball to touch

7 - Kelly Brown and Richie Vernon  combine to stop a Welsh attack

8 - Shane Williams coasts over the line to score his 2nd try

9 - Even 6'6" Scott MacLeod cannot get anywhere near the Welsh line out ball

10 - Two Welsh dragon fans in full voice

11 - Three colourful Welsh daffodils give the thumbs up
I was one of the 60,000 fans at Murrayfield on Saturday to see Scotland lose to Wales by 6 points to 24. For both halves, I was located behind the posts facing the Welsh attack, so captured the two tries scored by Shane Williams.

Even with the stadium lights full on, I had to shoot at ISO 4,000 (at f2.8) to get a shutter speed of around 1/800 sec, so pics are a bit noisier than usual.
