Pentland Utd won the David Allan Shield at a very wet Dammies tonight by beating Lybster on penalties 3-0.

I joined the game mid-way through the 2nd half and it was 3-3. Lybster scored their 4th with around 10 mins to go, but Pentland Utd hit back straight away when a swinging free kick was headed by a Lybster player into his own net.

There was no extra time and Lybtser had two penalties saved by Michael Gray and hit the bar with a third. Pentland Utd scored all three to win the game. Ross Allan received the shield which is in memory of his grandad David.

James Murray was voted the Caithness Player of the Year and received his trophy at the end of the match.

Alness celebrate the 2nd goal scored by Tony Farquhar
I caught the 2nd half of the Thurso vs Alness league game at the Dammies. Alness were leading 1-0.
Thurso totally dominated the 2nd half, but could not find a way through the Alness defence.

Tony Farquhar scored from a corner late in the game to seal the 2-0 win.

Marc MacGregor had blood pouring from a head wound and had to be taken off.

Caithness vs Mackie (30-23)

Liam Brims with another successful kick
Caithness beat Mackie FP 30-23 after extra time in a cup game at Millbank today. It was 17-10 for Caithness at half-time, but Mackie turned the screw and totally dominated the 2nd half and were winning 23-20 until Liam Brims kicked a penalty with around 3 minutes to go.

I had to leave for the Thurso vs Alness game at the Dammies and missed the 20 mins of extra time.

Scotland legend and SRU Ambassador Chris Paterson visited Caithness on Friday and Saturday. He was up for the installation of Murrayfield's posts at Millbank and to give some training sessions to Wick & Thurso High School pupils and the Caithness team.

He also took a training session on Saturday morning for the Caithness RFC 15 and 16 year olds and posed for photos at the end. Chris also lined up with the Caithness and Mackie teams just before their cup match. The match ended in a 23-23 draw and Caithness won 30-23 after 20 mins extra time. Action pics to follow later.

Caithness County league Champions - Wick Groats

Captain Alan Sinclair

Wick Groats won the Caithness Division one championship tonight by beating John O'Groats 4-2 in John O'Groats. The match was close at 3-2 with approx 8 mins left when James MacKay broke clear to score the decisive 4th. There were midges galore and the match ended in near darkness.
