Pentland Utd vs Wick Groats (1-2)

Wick Groats beat Pentland Utd 2-1 at a very windy Ham Park. Groats scored two goals early on with the wind behind them. Utd hit the woodwork just before half-time as they piled on the pressure. With a very strong wind behind them in the 2nd half, Utd were in command and scored a 30 yard screamer into the top corner, but could not get another. Michael Gray had very little to do in the 2nd half. Utd hit the post with 5 mins to go. This was the first goal conceded in the league by Groats, after 6 games.

Thurso Acks vs Wick Groats (2-1 aet)

Thurso Acks beat Wick Groats 2-1 after extra time at the Dammies in the semi-final of the Colin MacLeod Memorial cup. Conor Trueman of Acks equalised late in the 2nd half to take the match into extra time. 4th choice goalkeeper Alan Lannon played a blinder in goals for Acks. Murray Mackintosh scored the winner in the 1st half of extra time, with a stunning curling shot direct from a corner kick. I have not seen that done in 10 years of taking football photos.

Castletown v John O'Groats (4-5)

Mark Webster scores 4th goal with a wonder strike into top corner

John O'Groats beat Castletown 5-4 in a thriller of a match in the pouring rain. It was 2-1 to Groats at half-time, when an ambulance took Jack Fidler to hospital with a nasty knee injury. Groats were 4-2 up mid-way through the 2nd half when Castletown struck twice and were going for a win, but Groats headed a late winner.

There was a flurry of bookings in the 2nd half as the pitch became really slippy, but nobody was red carded.
