As the Autumn weather kicks in with wind, rain and sleet, I
have no qualms in getting out and about capturing sports action in Caithness
& the Highlands due to a cracking set of clothing I bought last Winter from
a Scottish company called Keela.
In October 2017 I struggled to keep warm and dry when standing
on the foreshore at Sandside bay near Thurso, trying to capture the action of the UK Pro
Tour surfing competition in horizontal rain (see pics below). Following a glowing
recommendation from Andy Howard, a Highland wildlife photographer who uses the
Cairngorm mountains as his second home, I bought base layers and a selection of
waterproof and windproof jackets. (Spectrum jacket, Belay smock & Neptune waterproof
fleece)
Having tried and tested them over the last 9 months, I am a
total convert. The rain just rolls off
the material similar to rain running off a newly polished car. The jackets are
lightweight yet keep the cold out and the warmth in. They are so good, I have I
have decided to go the whole hog and buy a selection of waterproof and
windproof trousers for this Winter season.
The added bonus is that the prices are good value compared
to some of the more well known High Street brands that are in the same market.
Check out their website at www.keela.co.uk.
The pic of myself at the Caithness RFC vs Murrayfield Wanderers National Div 3 rugby match in Thurso on 22 Sep 2018, shows me wearing the Spectrum jacket to cope with the frequent rain showers in between the bright sunshine.
