Photo Success

This week has brought some great news with another of my photos being featured in a national magazine and another silver award in the SWPP monthly competition.

The Sept issue of the Digital SLR User Magazine is just out and it details that I have won the competition to be featured in the magazine's 2010 calendar. They selected my photo of the Eden Court Theatre extension, which recently won a gold award from the Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers (SWPP). The photo is featured on page 17 as it would look in the calendar.

Adam Scorey, Deputy Editor said "I love the colours in this image and the use of strong diagonals to fill this picture with impact. It's one of those shots that could so easily have been overlooked, but James has used his eye for a picture to pull out a competition winner effectively from nothing."

I have won £100 worth of Photobox credit and a free copy of the A3 size calendar, which is out in November priced at £19.99. I may use the credit to get the photo as a large canvas print.

The results of the SWPP July competition (see www.swpp.co.uk) are just out and my photo of a rider at the Caithness Motocross race series has won a silver award. I panned the shot to get the feeling of speed and "tweaked" it in photoshop to make it "pop". The front forks are bang in focus and everything else is blurred.

SWPP Gold awards are given to the pics of the highest standard and are published in the Image Maker magazine. Silver is given to pics that are above standard and bronze to acceptable competent images.
