Caithness Shears Competition

The third annual Caithnes Shears competition was held at Aberdeen & Northern Mart, Quoybrae, Watten on Saturday.  It is part of the sheep shearing circuit and counts towards qualification for the World Championships which are being held at the Welsh Show in July.  Therefore, it attracted the best shearers in the UK and a few travelled overnight from a competition that was held the day before, in the South of England.

Split into 4 classes; Junior, Intermediate , Senior and Open, the event provided close and exciting finishes.  Points for time, technique and the finish of the sheep are all totalled up, before the winner is announced.

The best shearers in the Open class can clip 20 sheep in around 14 mins!

Gavin Mutch won the Open Championship.
