Wick Groats beat Halkirk 2-0 in the first round of the David Allan Shield in Halkirk tonight. Halkirk were the better team in a dour first half and had a few shots at goal compared to zero from Groats. Groats came out fighting and scored within a few minutes when Craig Ross was unmarked in the box and fired in a low pile driver into the corner of the net. Graham MacNab fired through a ruck of players soon after to make it 2-0. Both sides had a few chances after that, but no more goals.
