The British round of the 2017 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup was staged on the slopes of Aonach Mor, near Fort William, the 8th highest mountain in the UK at 4,006 ft. It was tagged "Home of the Brave" and upon seeing the tough course, I could see why. Over 200 of the world's best riders competed and many did not make it to the finish line, which was 2.82 km down from the top of the mountain.
The best time was by Greg Minnaar, South Africa in 4mins 40.344 secs, his 7th win at Fort William. A record crowd of 25,000 fans attended over the weekend of 3/4 June, along with 1 billion midges! The 4X event was exciting as 4 riders raced shoulder to shoulder down a shorter track.
It was my first ever time at this event, so it was a steep learning curve on trying to capture the best action shots. The website is www.fortwilliamworldcup.co.uk
