Castletown v Wick Groats
Castletown lost to Wick Groats 2-1 tonight in Castletown. I had to leave with 20 mins to go and it was still 0-0! Castletown scored first - the first goal that Groats have conceded in 13 games and only the second in 17 games (must be a record somewhere).
Castletown have lost 5 players to long term injury and top striker Chris Sutherland has left to play for Thurso Swifts. They have had to bring in 8 new players for the season, but it didn't show tonight. I was very impressed with the work rate and passing game - only their final pass let them down. It was a pretty even first half with the best effort on goal coming from Castletown with a freekick that Graeme Williamson had to tip over the bar.
Groats were very much in control in the second half and missed a hatful of chances. The strength of the squad was shown when the two subs that came on were Sandy Sutherland and Grant MacNab.
Other scores tonight;
Acks 0 - 1 Halkirk
Thistle 1 -7 Pentland Utd (Lukas Geruzel scored 4)
John O'Groats 5 - 0 Staxigoe Utd
