The 40th Scottish Surfing Championships were held in Caithness over the last weekend. The early heats and the Junior final were staged at Brims Ness on Saturday as the waves at Thurso East were poor. The Brims Ness waves were very short and surfers struggled. The light was very flat and dull and so pics were poor.

Sunday's competition at Thurso East had good high rollers but again the light was very poor and it rained most of the time, so struggled to get good clear pics. The East wind was also biting cold on the fingers, especially after 6 hours at the waters edge.

The prize presentation was held at the Tempest cafe and the winners were:

Juniors - Jamie Bain, Fraserburgh
Ladies: Shoana Blackadder, Thurso
Longboard: Mark Boyd, Thurso
Seniors: Chris Noble, Thurso
Open: Chris Noble, Thurso
Best scoring wave: Andrew MacLeod
