Golspie Sutherland beat Thurso 4-3 after extra time at the Dammies today, to win the Ness cup. It is their 4th cup win in 4 weeks, after beating Orkney once and Thurso 3 times.
The game was probably the best match seen at the Dammies in years, with fantastic goals and plenty of exciting action. I caught the 2nd half when it was 1-1. Thurso keeper Graeme Williamson saved a penalty in the first half and saved another in the 2nd, just after Thurso's Marc MacGregor had made it 2-1. Golspie's Alan Larnach turned from a penalty sinner to a freekick saint with two cracking freekicks into the top corners, to make it 3-2. With Golspie fans screaming for the full-time whistle, Michael Petrie dramatically equalised in the 6 or 7th minute of added time, to take the tie into extra time.
At the very end of the first half of extra time, Golspie centre forward Shaun Kerr hit a blistering drive that went in off the post, to make it 4-3.
