Halkirk Junior FC Under 9s learned recently that they won the Caithness 2009 U9s league following a technicality over registration of results.
They received their trophies last Friday evening, just before they played Castletown in the 2010 league match.

Staxigoe Utd lost to Golspie Stafford 3-1 in the Highland Amateur cup today, at a very sunny Lower Bignold Park. Jimmy Budge scored the equaliser just on half-time (see pic 7) with a looping header. Both teams were strong, but Golspie just had the edge up front.
I left at half time to cover the Wick Groats vs Contin game, which started 30 mins after the Staxigoe game. It was a pity that the games overlapped as it split the crowd.
A busy day today for Caithness football teams with lots of games in the second round of the Highland Amateur cup. I travelled to Wick to take in the Wick Groats vs Contin and the Staxigoe Utd vs Golspie Stafford matches at the Bignold Park.
It was pouring rain in Halkirk & Thurso, but a glorious day in Wick.
Groats won fairly easily 4-1, but left it late to score the last two goals. Contin took a shock lead early in the first half.
The 1st pic is the 2nd goal and the 2nd pic is the 4th goal, both were cracking volleys.
Staxigoe lost 3-1 to a strong and fast Golspie side. Pics to follow.

On Sunday 16th May, a classic motorcycle rally was held in Caithness that started off in Lybster and ended in Wick. I was in Wick for the Academy vs Inverurie Locos match and happened to see the bikes in the carpark of the Norseman Hotel. After asking for permission, I snapped a few close-up shots. There was plenty of shiny chrome on display.

A selection of the pics from the showing sections at the Caithness Riding Club Show held at Bylbster, Watten, on Saturday. It's not easy to capture the perfect leg position of two inverted "V" shapes when the horses are trotting.
Halkirk Utd held their annual dinner and awards night last Saturday in the Ulbster Arms Hotel and Colin Gregory kindly went along to take some pics as I was at the Thurso Rotary Club guest night.
Player of the year was Gavin Henderson, but he was on holiday, so Graham MacDonald received the trophy from David Hubbard of BNS Nuclear Services - the club sponsor.
Benn Murray won the trophy for best prospect and it was handed over by Nettie Gunn.
Thurso Rotary Club invited me to their annual guest night in the Pentland Hotel last Saturday and I took some pics throughout the evening. This is the last main event of the year, before President Alan Sparling hands over the "gong" to Graeme Dunnett.
The guest speaker was John Minhinick (5th pic) who will be Rotary's National President in 2012.
