Halkirk vs Wick Groats

Halkirk played Wick Groats tonight at the Recreation Park and were leading 2-1 when I left mid-way through the second half.  Two defensive errors gave Halkirk a 2-0 lead at half-time.

Acks vs Lybster

Acks played Lybster last night at the Dammies and won 6-0.  Lybster turned up with only 10 players.  Murray Coghill scored the 6th with a powerful header (see last pic).  Allan Munro scored the 4th with a great volley (see 1st pic).  The midges were out in force!

The pavillion is getting a make over, with the standing area being bricked up to make another room.  There is now a road leading to the pavillion from Sir Archibald road.

Stone Roses Tribute Band

One of the best known tribute bands "The Complete Stone Roses" played in Wick's Assembly Rooms on Friday night.  They have played in front of many thousands at festivals, but not quite so many on Friday!  This was their second time in Wick.

The lead singer is Jon McKenzie.

Golf - Reay Open 2010

The Reay Open was held in fine weather today and it was my first major golfing event.  I took position for the second round at the 4th Green and 5th Tee.  I got pics of everyone (around 40 golfers) except the first group of three.

The backdrop to the 5th Tee is Sandside harbour.

The results were due to be announced at around 8pm, so I have no idea who won.

Swifts vs Wick Groats

Wick Groats beat Thurso Swifts 6-1 tonight in an Eann MacKintosh cup match at the Dammies.  I got there early in the second half and Groats were 4-0 up after scoring 3 quick goals right after half-time.

Alan Larnach scored the 6th goal (4th pic) and Swifts' James Mill was sent off for a last man foul on James Mackay on the edge of the box.

Canisbay show

Canisbay Show was held yesterday and it was baltic!  Coldest show I have been to.  I arrived at 11am, but most of the riders were on the show field by 8.30am and must have been shivering for over 6 hours. At least it was dry.

Overall horse champion was Sarah Sutherland (top two pics) and reserve was young Hayley Florence (3rd pic).  Emma Gunn was reserve in-hand champion behind Sarah, with Sylvia Stewart's Palimino (4th pic).
