Thurso Pentland vs Top Joes

Thurso Pentland played Top Joes at the Dammies tonight.  I caught some of the action and it was 3-2 to Pentlands with 15 mins to go.

Castletown vs Kyleakin

The Highland Amateur cup match between Castletown and Kyleakin was played at the Dammies in Thurso at 1pm today.  I caught the last 20 mins when it was 3-0 and thankfully just missed the nasty shower which came down after the whistle. Martin Campbell scored a penalty with 2 mins to go, to make it a very comfortable 4-0.

Pentland Utd vs Kirkwall Hotspurs

Ross Allan scores the only goal of the match

Pentland Utd beat Kirkwall Hotspurs 1-0 today in the Highland Amateur cup at Ham Park.  United had most of the play in the 2nd half (against the strong wind) but found the Hotspurs keeper in fine form. Plenty of strong tackling and a few players limped off. Ross Allan eventually found a way past with a low drive into the corner of the net with only 10 mins left.

Castletown beat Kyleakin 4-0 at the Dammies in Thurso (pics to follow) and Thurso Acks beat Stromness 2-1. Halkirk beat Thurso Pentlands 4-2 after extra time. Pentlands were winning 2-0, but Halkirk clawed back the 2 goals to edge the tie in extra time, just like the last round against Wick Thistle.

Wick Academy beat Rothes 5-0 away from home. This equalled their best ever away score.

Wick played Rothes in their last home game of the season and won 1-0.  Richard MacAdie scored a rare header in the 2nd half.  There was plenty of missed chances by Wick and both keepers had good saves - the score could have been 5-2 to Wick!

Thurso Acks vs Castletown

Thurso Acks beat Castletown 2-1 in the Colin MacLeod Memorial cup at the Dammies yesterday. Tony Miller scored a cracking 30 yard free kick which went in off the crossbar (see bottom two pics). Keiran Munro scored a header to make it 2-0, before Castletown scored with two mins to go.

Castletown had no luck in front of goal and rattled the woodwork a couple of times. Scott Manson received a nasty ankle injury (3rd pic from top).

On Friday night, Halkirk beat Thurso Swifts in a penalty shoot-out at the Dammies.

Halkirk vs Pentland Utd

Mark Nichol scores the 8th goal while lying on the ground

I arrived at Halkirk's Recreation Park just after half-time and found out that I had missed Pentland Utds seven goals! The first was scored after only 20 seconds and it went downhill for Halkirk after that (5-0 at half time).

I caught their 8th by Mark Nichol (his hat-trick I think), but missed Michael Bremner's goal for Halkirk as he took a quick free kick to catch out Michael Gray who was busy organising his defensive wall.

A trialist for Utd was Halkirk's Hamish Coghill, who normally plays rugby for Caithness RFC.
