The Societies hold a monthly competition which is open to their 7,500 members, with the top entries (gold awards) qualifying for the finals of the Photographer of the Year awards.
For January I gained silver awards for the above two pics. The surfing pic was taken at the 2010 Scottish Surf Championship and the car pic at a local quarry two weeks ago. The effect of the car pic is created in Photoshop and is called pencil sketch.
