Philip MakHouli celebrates scoring Pentland Utd's 3rd goal and late equaliser which would be enough to win the league |
Wick Groats won the Caithness Summer League in dramatic fashion at Ham Park in Dunnet tonight. Graham MacNab scored in injury time against Pentland Utd to make it 4-3 and clinch the championship.
Pentland Utd scored first but Groats hit back twice to make it 2-1 at half-time in front of a large crowd who were bitten alive by midges. Groats scored early in the 2nd half and were cruising. The tackles were flying in and Grant MacNab had to be treated twice. Plenty of bookings but no red cards from ref Bob Gunn.
James Murray lashed a shot into the goal mid-way through the 2nd half and it was game on. Substitute Philip Makhouli scored the equaliser with 10 mins remaining and sent the large home crowd wild. However, Groats kept plugging away and Graham MacNab scored in injury time.
Both teams had the same points, but as Groats had a draw and a win against Utd, it meant they took the title, despite having an inferior goal difference.
